In November 2015 my artikel about "sport and art" will be published by the University of Cosenza. The article is written in German.
During summer time I've finished my research project which gave me the opportunity to become more acquainted with the Antiquity period. I found several impressing bronze statues, marble sculptures, grave paintings, mosaics as well as rich pottery demonstrating the sports enthusiasm of Greeks, Romans and Etruscans. The perfect athletic body excercised such a great attraction on artists and craftsmen that they produced lots of masterpieces with sportsmotifs. This heyday of sport representations in art in the Antiquity period seems to me unique and still unrivaled since two millennia. Fortunately some of these artworks have survived and can be admired in some excellent Itlian museums like the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme and the National Etruscan Museum in Rome.
